Traveling Exhibit in South Dakota

A general bit of information for those of you who will be in the South Dakota area. . .

Ghosts of the Russian Dinosaurs is now on display at South Dakota School of Mines (Rapid City, SD). The exhibit contains casts of a variety of Mongolian dinosaurs, including Tarbosaurus, Gallimimus, Tarchia, Protoceratops and Avimimus. A satellite exhibit at the Children's Science Center contains a nice display of "mammal-like reptiles." Accompanying these exhibits is "Dinosaurs of Darkness," on display in the US for the first time (if I am not mistaken). This exhibit is a combination of fossil and original material, with animals including Leaellynasaura and Koolasuchus.

I had the privilege of assisting in the setup of these exhibits. It was like Christmas and my birthday rolled into one!

The exhibit is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday and closed on Mondays. Admission is $3 each to the SDSM&T and Children's Science Center venues, or you can buy a $5 "passport" that gets you into both exhibits for an unlimited number of times. I think it is scheduled to be in Rapid City through July 8. . .
