Re: Early Origin of Angiosperms?

Angiosperms probably lived in upland habitats through much of the Jurassic (and perhaps even back into the Triassic). Suggestions that they occurred in the Permian should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
Although this new evidence may be a breakthrough in the origins of angiosperms, I'd still bet on a Triassic origin. Even if these biomolecules only evolved once (i.e., it is a good synapomorphy), it only shows that it evolved earlier than the origin of angiosperms, and that this character is plesiomorphic for angiosperms.
My 2 cents worth, Ken

I found the following info interesting. Apparently geochemical evidence indicates the possible origen of angiosperms all the way back in the Permian. First I've heard of any evidence for angiosperms pre K.
