New volume on Late Jurassic of Tendaguru
NEW PUBLICATION ON THE FAUNA AND FLORA OF THE LATE JURASSIC TENDAGURU BEDS OF
TANZANIA
Dear colleagues
I would like to draw your attention to Volume 2 of the Mitteilungen aus dem
Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin Geowissenschaftliche Reihe, published in
November 1999 and devoted almost entirely to the Late Jurassic fauna and flora
of the Tendaguru beds in Tanzania.
This volume (see below for a full listing of the contents), which concentrates
on dinosaurs, but also contains papers on other fossil reptiles, mammals, fish
and plants, represents the first results of a major new research programme on
the Tendaguru deposits which is co-ordinated by the Institut für Paläontologie
in the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin. The volume also provides a useful
entrance into the older literature on the Tendaguru beds which have yielded a
remarkable vertebrate fauna including the spectacular sauropod dinosaur
Brachiosaurus, a specimen of which forms the focal point of the Dinosaur Hall
in the public exhibitions of the Museum für Naturkunde. As part of the research
programme a team from the Museum will visit Tanzania later this year to collect
more data on the sedimentology, stratigraphy and age of the Tendaguru beds.
