Re: Troodontidae and All That Jazz
Mickey Mortimer pointed out (privately, but I think
this merits the list) that the links I sent don't
work, and I forgot these things are case sensitive.
Also, there's a shunt where Tripod will have you go
through their link to an image.
try:
http://members.tripod.com/~Qilong/Bullatosaurs/pele_skul.jpg
,
http://members.tripod.com/~Qilong/Bullatosaurs/sinorn_skul.jpg
and
http://members.tripod.com/~Qilong/Bullatosaurs/peleskel.jpg
.
The pictures are all there.
-------
I also noticed that I left out something on the
other Hateg "troodonts" like *Bradycneme draculae*,
*Heptasteornis andrewsi* and *Elopteryx nopscai*,
which Darren Naish, Mickey Mortimer, DinoGeorge
Olshevsky, Tracy Ford, and Tim Williams have already
discussed on the list previously this year, and last
year, and the year before.... So I won't. I will say
that *Borogovia* does not appear to preserve the
conditions in the tibiotarsi, and the state is not
described or observable in *Sinornithoides*.
Additionally, the outgroup relationships of
troodonts are on the table and in press, including the
*Byronosaurus* paper in _JVP_ 20(1). It is my position
(refutable) they are between ornithomimosaurs and
dromaeosaurs, and may be sister to the deinonychosaur
(exclusive of troodonts) and oviraptorosaur clade,
which can be restricted as Maniraptora, or coined anew
(this would be the most recent common ancestor of
*Oviraptor* and oh, say, *Corvus*). Anyway, hope this
works.
