Re: GREAT WORKS

Personally, I have enjoyed some tome-like volumes on
diverse taxa, such as:
Carroll, 1988, on vertebrates, though his specialty
has been early tetrapods and more basal creatures.
Romer, 1966, on vertebrates, and everyone should be
familiar with this.
Janis et al., 1993, (so far, only vol. 1) on
mammals, but I wish more to the whole thing was
available.
Not just on cladistic process or systematics, but
diverse, Hecht et al., 1985, was an incredible chance
on come upon, including a certain chapter contribution
by Philip Taquet on a Moroccan "coelurosaur" compared
to *Compsognathus* whose pes looks surprising like
that of *Coelophysis* as to help me determine there
was an EJ coelophysid in Morocco. I don't know if
anyone else knows anything about this, but it would be
great if someone could get to me on it.
Hotton et al., 1992, is primarily on mammal-like
reptiles, like sphenacodonts (being discussed), but
includes dicynodonts, cynodonts, tritylodonts, etc.
My position, though non-dinosaurian in root, it
would probably be most helpful for most of you out
there interested in dinosaurs (and birds ... yeah,
yeah, I know, Mickey :) ) to take a good close look at
more than just dinosaurs or pterosaurs to gain a
perspective of what precisely goes into identifying
and working on things such as "loxommatids," basal
amniotes, etc. and the complexity of fish skeletons
relative to us mammals, which is incredible
considering the shear volume of bones in relation to
ours is by multiples, not fractions.
So I recommend these volumes:
Carroll, 1988
Romer, 1966
Janis et al., 1994
Hecht et al., 1985
