Did the article say if that vertebra weight was "in life", or the field
weight (fossil weight)?
The weight of fossil bone can sometimes be double or triple the weight of
the unfossilized bone.
And this is where both the heirarchy of field workers and beer come into
the picture. The lower that one is on the field worker chain of command,
the heavier the blocks appear to be. Similarly, the colder and tastier
the beer is at the end of a day's work, the heavier those blocks were.
