Horizontal or Vertical? (Was re:PARTICULAR sauropods aquatic?)
I wouldn`t think that neck length
would matter all that much if it were held
in a more horozontal position. More important would be the diff in
height
between nasal openings and lungs. But then,...what about Brachiosaurs,
with
more upright necks?!
On another note, I was wondering if anyone has any takes on the true
orientation the sauropod necks were held. I think it was in a book by
Sylvia Czerkas (my memory is hazy here) that mentioned that
Brachiosaurids, and in fact a whole lot of other sauropods traditionally
restored as having vertical neck alignments, such as Barosaurus, actually
had more horizontally held necks. I remember being pretty disappointed
with that!
I was just wondering if anyone has read that same book (can't remember
the title as well I'm afraid) or has any thoughts on the matter.
