Didn't M. Lockley explain this trackway as undertracks of sauropod manus
imprints, thus discarding the partly-swimming theory?

In Lockley and Hunt, _Dinosaur Tracks_, 1995, this is discussed. Beri has
summed up their argument. However, how can one tell an underprint from a
print made in very soft sediment under say 8 feet of water? The Mayan Ranch
trackway shows a change in direction after the one lonely pes print appears.
For me, the jury is still out. Similar prints from Portugal need examination.
I also have a problem with their interpretation of ceratopian ichnites.
Emphasis is placed on manus print widths in determining forelimb posture. If
there were any lateral flexation of the vertebral column, however, this goes
out the window. I'm dyin' to see the results of Ralph Chapman's "Mr.T"
project. What a great idea. Dan Varner.
