filter feeding herps
Gang,
Regarding the recent discussion of filter-feeding herps in the
Mesozoic..
There have been suggestions that Stomatosuchus, a very strange croc
from the Late K of Egypt, was a filter feeder. This would have been a
Deinosuchus-sized animal, had a kick-board shaped skull, an edentulous
jaw, and a flange running along the outline of the mandible that Nopcsa
interpreted as support for a gular sack, as in a baleen whale. Alas,
all known material of Stomatosuchus was lost during World War II.
