Re: Mononykine or Parvicursorine?
While T. Mike Keesey's suggestions for alvarezsaurid taxonomy may be
reasonable, the clade is far too poorly known at present to warrant naming
extra clades within it except those that are very well supported.
Parvicursoridae, -inae, subfamily, disorder, diatribe, whatever.
At this point the fairly conservative nomenclature applied to
alvarezsaurids seems adequate, and I'd leave it to those that are
actually doing the work and studying the specimens to make the
nomenclatural decisions. We don't need a name for every clade in any
case. Parvicursor could fall outside Mononykinae (or was it Mononykine? I
must be getting Alzheimer's, and I should have the paper sitting in front
of me before I start blabbering). It could be a skunk cabbage or a weasel
for all I know (j/k). Who knows. We need mo' betta' specimens.
