I believe that this is still in hypothesis stage. Giant Sperm Whales do
much of the interesting stuff in their lives very very very deep under
water, and much of theirs lives is still shrouded in mystery for that
reason. Certainly sounds like a reasonable hypothesis though.
Sorry, I know this is off-topic, but I can't resist P. catodon
discussion.
By the way, Moby Dick will be shown in a new adaptation on USA Network
this weekend. I will send a list of inaccuracies to the sperm whale
mailing list, including:
1) in the book, the whale is not pure white.
2) in the book, Ahab's hair is pure white. He is an old coot!
3) Moby Dick is not an adventure book about a whale.
