Plans to clone dinos (well, almost)
That's the avian variety of dino of course. Has anyone heard of the
plans to clone Moas? Apparently the Uni of Dunedin in New Zealand
wanted to "clone a moa with emu or ostrich genes" (according to
the article - a pretty vague statement). DNA from the leg bone of a
moa was to be taken to Japan to be implanted into chicken embryos
(yes, the article contridicts itself), however the indigenous
Maori people have halted the plans until talks can get underway
regarding exactly who owns the DNA. The article then goes on to say
that the moa became extinct 1500 years ago, around 700 years BEFORE
humans colonized NZ. Those moa hunters must have had it pretty easy
if their prey had been dead for so long. What, I hear you ask, a
newspaper article full of inacuracies and contradictions? Never!
