Mass extinction theories - critical omission
Hi,
I've a question in regards the great impact theory of extinction. Given that
a large mass impacts the Earth and disrupts the atmosphere, photosynthesis,
etc. why does nobody recognize that such an impact would seriously disrupt
the Van Allen belt and as a consequence greatly increased levels of solar
radiation would reach the ground (even through the nuclear winter clouds).
This increased radiation would have a very detrimintal effect. Other than
the direct deaths caused by the radiation surge the long-term effect in
regards birth defects would be catastrophic in such a stressed environment.
