Dave,

Here's a little-known fact: the public library will do Interlibrary Loan
for you.

Here in Alameda County (Calif.), I was able to borrow a research book from
Tulane Univ through the Pleasanton Public Library. There was a $2.00
processing fee, and a three-week wait, but I got the book I desperately
needed (a WWI memoir, in German, for a novel I was writing).

Try your local library. It's best to find the location, call number, title,
volume, etc. using one of the many Univ. online card catalogs, then make
friends with your county librarians. They may be able to get the book for
you if the Univ. won't let you use their libraries directly.
