New refs #20
And now for a new batch of stuff, including stuff picked up at Dinofest...
First we have an edited volume,
Dong, Z., ed. 1997. Sino-Japanese Silk Road Dinosaur Expedition.
China Ocean Press, Beijing. 114 p.
This includes the following papers.
Introductory chapters with outlines. The list includes the following beasts
of interest. An unknown mesosuchid. Saurischians Sinornithoides, an
unknown dromaeosaurid, the mamenchisaur Chiayusaurus and an
unknown nemegtosaur. Among the ornithischians is the hypsilophodont
Siluosaurus zhangqiani (new genus and species), the iguanodont
Probactrosaurus mazongshanensis (new species), a new species
Psittacosaurus mazongshanensis, and the new genus and species
Archaeoceratops oshimai (Neoceratopsian, Archaeoceratopsidae),
and a new species of the segnosaur Nanshiungosaurus bohlini.
Dong keeps the segnosaurs in a separate order Segnosaurischia.
There is also an unidentified triconodont mammal. Most seem to
be Early Cretaceous although a few bits may sneak down into the
Upper Jurassic.
Now for the more explicit papers...
Dong, Z. On the crocodiles from Mazongshan Area, Gansu
Province, China. Pp. 11-12. As above - armor parts.
Dong, Z. On small theropods from Mazongshan Area, Gansu
Province, China. Pp. 13-18.
Sinornithoides stuff includes teeth and a nice but incomplete
foot. There are also dromaeosaur teeth and apparently an
allosaurid tooth as well that was described by earlier workers.
Dong, Z. On the sauropods from Mazongshan Area, Gansu
Province, China. Pp. 19-23. Teeth and a caudal vert.
Dong, Z. A small ornithopod from Mazongshan Area, Gansu
Province, China. Pp. 24-26. New taxon based on teeth.
Lu, J. A new Iguanodontidae (Probactrosaurus mazongshanensis sp.
nov.) from Mazongshan Area, Gansu Province, China. Pp. 27-47.
As it says, part of skull and postcrania.
Xu, X. A new psittacosaur (Psittacosaurus mazongshanensis, sp. nov.)
from Mazongshan Area, Gansu Province, China. Pp. 48-67.
Includes a detailed analysis of shapes of gastroliths from the beast.
Includes a nearly complete skull, forelimb and verts. Bunch of
Those stones in the belly - neat.
Dong, Z. & Y. Azuma. On a primitive Neoceratopsian from the Early
Cretaceous of China. Pp. 68-89.
Great specimens of a neat beast. Little guy and the most primitive
Neoceratopsian. Very nice. Saw a cast of the skull -beautiful.
Dong, Z. & H. Yu.A new segnosaur from Mazongshan Area, Gansu
Province, China. Pp. 90-95. Batch of verts and ribs.
Next a section on the Turpan Basin
Dong, Z. The Geology of the Turpan Basin, the Xingjiang Uygur
Autonomous Region, China. Pp. 96-100. K & Jur. Stuff.
Dong, Z. Dinosaurian lists of the Turpan Basin. Pg. 101.
Includes a new genus and species of mamenchisaur,
Hudiesaurus sinojapanorum, an allosaurid with
aff. With Szechuanosaurus campi, and the theropod
Shanshanosaurus huoyanshanensis.
Dong, Z. A gigantic sauropod (Hudiesaurus sinojapanorum
Gen. Et sp. Nov.) from the Turpan Basin. Pp. 102-110.
A bunch of it.
Dong, Z. On a large claw of sauropod from the Upper
Cretaceous in the Turpan Basin, Xingjiang, China.
Pp. 111-112. Large claw of titanosaurid.
There is also a note on small artifacts found.
Now the other big picture book..
Guan, J., ed. 1998. The Fossil Animals of China.
China Ocean Press. 197 p.
Lots of pretty pictures, including lots of verts.
That's enough for now.... That should give Dong a
pile more papers for his already hefty biblio.
