That excellent pterosaur foot showed that strut-like digit
could fold up in that extraordinary way, in death, and probably in life, but I
have no doubt that both could do other things.
Ok, so the hallux may vary a bit between flying birds and
droms., but then the crest of parasauolophus varied a bit from it's relatives,
but we don't say they're not closely related - because we've already (wisely)
made a subjective decision about the importance of the crest in establishing
relationships.
