Fossilized Brain Tissue?
This is one picture of a brain fossil that was found by Mike Tellman, an
amateur paleo
in Wright City, MO.. If anyone can give me input as to possible identity of
creature and/or species, etc. please let me know. I have a number of other
pics at different angles if you would like to see them. A CT of the brain
showed it to be of consistent
density throughout, although it did not show any structural features
internally,i:e the
ventricles,etc.. However, all of the exterior structure features lend me to
believe this is from a mammal, probably of a canine type. This is of course my
initial opinion, based on the comparative sizes of the gross structual
landmarks. If anyone has seen a similar fossil, or has info on someone that
has, or on any papers related to this type of phenomenon please let me know.
This is not simply a cast of the inside of a skull,
since there are soft tissue and cellular components present.
Thanks in advance

City Museum, St. Louis, MO.
