         IMAX CORPORATION ANNOUNCES START OF PRODUCTION ON T.REX: BACK
TO  THE CRETACEOUS

         Brett Leonard to Direct Newest IMAX© 15/70 Film
         Featuring CGI Dinosaurs For the Giant IMAX Screen


         CALGARY, Alberta., Sept. 24, 1997 / -- Imax Corporation today
         announced that production has begun here on T.rex: Back To The
         Cretaceous.   Directed by Brett Leonard (

8), the film will be shot in IMAX 3D.   Computer
         generated imagery (CGI) and visual effects will be created and
         produced by L-Squared Entertainment, who will oversee the work
of
         other special effects houses such as Blue Sky|VIFX.  T.rex will
be
         released to the worldwide network of IMAX and IMAX 3D theatres
         beginning Fall 1998.

         This 40-minute IMAX Experience
v follows 16-year old Ally
Hayden,
         the daughter of a world renowned paleontologist, on a
ore-historic
         adventure as she is transported back through 65 million years
to
         the Cretaceous Period.  Here she encounters several species of
         dinosaurs including the largest, most realistic Tyrannosaurus
Rex
         ever to appear on the 80-foot high giant IMAX screen.

         The film will star Peter Horton, former star of the hit
television
         series thirtysomething, who has just recently wrapped a
starring
         role in Columbia Pictures' summer release 
&The Babysitters
         Club
8, and will introduce newcomer Liz Stauber as Ally Hayden.

         Also appearing will be Kari Coleman (
&Sour Grapes

8) and Laurie Murdoch (

8) in the role of Barnum Brown.

         Director Brett Leonard has established himself as one of the
         motion picture industry's most innovative filmmakers.  In 1992,

         Leonard co-wrote and directed the critically acclaimed hit
motion
         picture "The Lawnmower Man".  The film introduced the concept
of
         virtual reality to
         the pop culture by using high end digital visual effects to
         complement the story on a modest $5.5 million budget.  The film

         has grossed more than $100 million worldwide.  Leonard recently

         directed the feature "Virtuosity", starring Denzel Washington,
         Kelly Lynch and Russell Crowe.

         The film is produced by Antoine Compin and Charis Horton who
have
         worked together since 1977, focusing on special venue and large

         Visual effects are being created and produced by L-Squared
         Entertainment in conjunction with VIFX.  L-Squared was formed
in
         1994 by Co-Chairman/CEO Michael Lewis, (who is serving as
         Co-Producer on T.rex) and Co-Chairman Brett Leonard.  Under the

         moniker "bleeding edge entertainment" the company is recognized
as
         a leader in "next generation" entertainment production.  The
         company has received critical acclaim for many of its high
profile
         projects, including the creation and production of the visual
         effects for the film "Virtuosity" and as creator and producer
for
         the IS?TV Virtual Studio Tour starring Danny Devito for
CAA/Intel.
         T.rex visual effects will be guided by L-Squared Producer Jini
         Dayaneni and Visual Effects Supervisor Sean Phillips.
