THE WORLD'S OLDEST EGG OF A MEAT EATING
DINOSAUR
In late 1995, Don Shiffler and his three-year-old son David
came to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History with an
odd-looking, curved rock that David had found while they
were hiking near Albuquerque. Don did not know exactly
what that rock was, but David was sure it was part of a
dinosaur egg. First, Museum Chief Preparator Peter Reser,
and then I, confirmed the three-year-old-boy's discovery and
conclusion -- David Shiffler had found part of a dinosaur
egg. After further study by several research organizations it
was found that this egg belonged to a Jurassic carniverous
theropod dinosaur. You can explore this discovery online at
the New Mexico Museum of Natural History's web site.
