In Science (275:372) dated 17 Jan 1997 Richards. et al., give an explaination
for the long term stability (100 million yrs) os the earths rotation. ALthough
they do not deal directly with the tilt (as opposed to wobble) this
observation may be relevent.
RTW, there is a photoperiod at the equatio (contra Myhrvolds posting)
It is very close to 12hr:12hr (light:dark). It does in fact change slightlyduri
ng the solar year, but not as much as in temperate regions.
