team determined that an asteroid caused the dinosaurs’ extinction.  (April)

“Dinosaur Lives:  Unearthing an Evolutionary Saga” by John Horner and Edwin
Dobb (Harper-Collins, $24).  A sweeping vision of how dinosaurs lived 70
million years ago.  (May)

“The Call of the Distant Mammoths:  Why the Ice Age Mammals Disappeared” by
Peter D. Ward (Copernicus, $26).  The author builds a compelling case of
human hunting as the culprit that killed off the great mammals.  (April)
