cameloid red cells
Rich Hengst referred to an article stating that camels had nucleated red
cells. This is not true; they have enucleated RBCs just like other
mammels. Their cells are different, however, in that they are oval rather
than biconcave disc-shaped. Presumably this is related to the ability of
this particular family to withstand severe dehydration, which adversely
affects the deformability of biconcave RBCs.
