Re: glide to fly

I remember years ago watching my cat moving across the lawn.  He was
tracking a flying squirrel gliding toward what was unfortunately not a
tree but a hungry cat.  It came lower and lower.  Then, like one of
those Frisbee catching dogs, he leapt and caught the squirrel in mid
air.  I can't help but wonder if a gliding animal might be provided
incentive in such a situation to start flapping?
