some questions related to dinosaur and/or avian biology
First of all, I have sent this query to several lists, so I apologize in
advance for cluttering up some people's electronic mailboxes with
multiple copies. I am a mammalian physiologist trying to deduce the
structure of the dinosaur respiratory system, and have some questions
generated by curiosity and naivete:
1) Are long-necked herbivores found only within the saurischia
(sauropods), or are there some long-necked ornithiscian herbivores as
well?
2) Is there any evidence for pneumatic bones in ornithiscians, as there
is for saurischians (sauropods and theropods)?
3) For the ornithologists that I know are out there and contribute to these
lists: are all passerines relatively small birds, or are some comparable in
size to larger non-passerines?
4) Another one for the ornithologists, and not meant to resurrect the egg
predation arguments again: do any modern birds bury their eggs in sand
or vegetation mounds aa a means of minimizing changes in the immediate
external environment of the eggs?
Thanks for your willingness to help me put some pieces of evidence
together, the results will be evident in my poster at NAPC-96 in
Washington in June.
