It's interesting to note that recent high-resolution imaging of
near-Earth asteroids, crater population studies on the Moon, Mars, and
other solar system bodies, and now impact craters on Earth are leading to
the conclusion that many impacts (like Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter) are
multiple rather than single.
