  Subject: UCMP Collections Open now

The University of California, Berkeley, Museum of Paleontology is
pleased to announce that its collections of fossil vertebrates,
plants, foraminifera, radiolaria, coccoliths, miscellany, and
samples is once again open for loans and visitors. For information
about UCMP's holdings, you may visit our World Wide Web site at
ucmp1.berkeley.edu. UCMP holds millions of specimens, many of which
are cataloged into its electronic data management system. All type
specimens are in the database and are accessible on-line at the
above address, using WWW or gopher access.

The Museum's collections have been closed for packing and moving for
the past 2-1/2 years. The Museum completed its move into the new
Valley Life Sciences Building on the Berkeley campus in December
into quarters specially designed for the Museum. The main research
collection is housed in that building, and is available for study.
Subsidiary storage facilities exist at three other sites on or near
the campus where bulk samples, large fossils, and especially
numerous fossils are kept. Visitors may use any of these
collections and the specialized laboratories of the Museum. These
include the Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope lab,
Molecular Phylogenetics lab, and palynological, microfossil, large
specimen, and casting labs. A complete computer facility is
available in the Museum with 2 Sun SparcStations, several
MacIntoshes, and several PCs, all connected to the Berkeley network
for immediate access to the Internet.

Loan forms and requests are available on-line at the above address.
For loan requests, additional information, or visit proposals,
please address the proper Museum Scientist below.
