I can vouch for that personally.  The only one I was around for was St. 
Helens, and I barely remember that.

Yup.  From where I live in Olympia, WA, at a high place on a (rare) clear
day, you can get a nice view of Mt. Rainier.  Not a prayer of seeing any 
other volcanos, though.
