Temporally displaced diets
Nick writes:
" . . . the planners of the park were
pleasently surprised to learn that the "compys" liked to eat brachiosaur
droppings. This is indeed surprising, considering that
_Procompsognathus_ was as far removed from _Brachiosaurus_, temporally
speaking, as _Tyrannosaurus_ is removed from us!"
I don't think any of us would be surprised if a revivified T.rex liked to
eat people, though he'd no doubt prefer something larger. We might be
anachronistic, but we'd still be crunchy.
More to the point: One could speculate that Procompsognathus was accustomed
to feeding on prosauropod droppings. If that had been the case, they would
have been in hog heaven with a brachiosaur around. The "surprise" would
come from the unexpected diet, not the anachronism.
Or am I missing your point entirely?
