and speaking of bad spelling... the number of times that i see 
(supposedly) educated (let alone the blokes i get in my classes)
americans spell metre, kilometre, etc. with an er when international
convention (to which all scientists are supposed to adhere) demands it
be spelled metre, etc.  

and then there is mollusc which so many americans (even a number of 
paleontologists) spell with a k.

and let
's not mention computer discs
.. ad infinitum ... (i know more latin!)
