Ok. I revise my earlier post. Replace "English" with "American" at the
appropriate places. ;-)

Interestingly, my wife hails from a former "English" colony (Trinidad)  where
they still use the Queen's English and drive on the wrong (left) side of the
road.  It still amazes me how often we miscommunicate despite the
similarities in the two languages. We have lots of fun needling each other in
the exact manner you so eloquently state above. But it's all in fun and no
one is assuming superiority over the other, full stop! (Oops, I meant period)
 ;-)
