Reprints on the Web

Farlow's recent offer to send reprints to people sparked an idea.
While we do not yet have the facilities to publish a Web journal,
a "reprint service" raises fewer technical issues, and may be possible.

The idea would be that anybody that wants to look at a published
article could get access via the Web, for personal use only. Any
submissions would have to come from an author, with notes from all
other authors giving permission for distribution via the Web.

At least for the time being I would be willing to donate my time to
convert documents into a Web-suitable format (as long as I do not
get snowed under with papers to convert). The only *conversion* I would
have to charge for is converting photographs, since I do not have,
and do not plan to acquire, a suitable scanner.

For a nominal fee I would even be willing to place the reprints
on my Web site.  My provider charges $0.50 US per megabyte or part
thereof, and I would have to charge enough to cover this fee.
For short articles with limited graphics I could put them up for $3 US
per year.  For longer articles, or ones with substantial graphics
(espeically photographs), I would have to charge at least $6 US per
year.   Either way, this is CHEAP.
