Derek,
        Even the most volcanic of lands have been eroded and the 
weathered and eroded material deposited as sediments, and often later 
metamorphosed. Thus on an island of significant age, there should be all 
types of rock, some quite old. Indeed, if you go back far enuf, certainly 
all rocks on the earth were derived over billions of years from igneous 
rx. Japan, Hawaiian Islands, upstate NY, etc have this derivation altho 
volcanics  started it all. I mention these because I have seen the 
results in all of these places.
        Derek, I hope I did not insult you with this. I only meant to 
clarify. Otherwise, "mea culpa"!
