Dinosaur Genera List corrections #38
There's a new ornithopod referable to either Hypsilophodontidae or
Thescelosauridae from the Hell Creek Formation of South Dakota:
_Bugenasaura infernalis_ Galton, 1995
based on a skull originally described by William Morris in 1976. The complete
citation is:
Galton, P. M., 1995. "The species of the basal hypsilophodontid dinosaur
_Thescelosaurus_ Gilmore (Ornithischia: Ornithopoda) from the Late Cretaceous
of North America," _Neues Jahrbuch fuer Geologie und Palaeontologie
Abhandlungen 198(3): 297-311 [December 1995].
Galton also synonymizes _Thescelosaurus edmontonensis_ with _Thescelosaurus
neglectus_, and allows three possibilities for the disposition of the species
_Thescelosaurus garbanii_: (1) into a new genus (unnamed); (2) referable to
_Stygimoloch spinifer_; or (3) referable to _Bugenasaura infernalis_. The
material is insufficient to decide among these alternatives, but in any case
it is not a species of _Thescelosaurus_.
Thus: update the Dinosaur Genera List with
Bugenasaura Galton, 1995
and the count soars to 776.
