Gee, the last time I went to an old-growth forest I saw lots of 
douglass-firs with alot of other trees, I would totally disagree with you on 
that.  At different times of the year the ground is at different 
wetnesses. Now it is true that you will not find douglass-firs near the 
ocean, because they can't put up with the salty air.
