New material of Deinonychus
In response to a few recent postings........
In 1993 I re-opened the Yale Deinonychus quarry in south-central Montana. I was
working out of the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. My crew of very
capable and enthusiastic volunteers removed a lot of overburden, eventually
exposing the bone bed. We collected new cranial material and some post-crania.
A return to the site in 1994 produced a few more bones; it is now closed for
good.
Larry Witmer and I are describing the new material. We're in the middle of
comparing it with other theropods, and we have Ostrom's original collection on
loan, also for comparison. We hope to address all of Greg Paul's ideas
regarding Deinonychus and Velociraptor.
