Well, humans *are* pretty much the ultimate generalists - we live
in more habitats than any other single species, and we eat absolutely
*anything* that isn't actually poisonous - and we even manage to eat
some things that *are* poisonous (unless prepared correctly). [Our
genetic diversity is moderately high as well]. 

Also, your rules for clades cannot really be properly applied to
single species.  So as an *individual* *species* we have about
as much chance of staying around as any othe single species, perhaps
more.
