POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
HEAD LIBRARIAN, GULF COAST RESEARCH LABORATORY GUNTER LIBRARY
The GCRL is a non-degree granting
Mississippi institution of higher learning
which is under the administrative control
of the University of Southern Mississippi.
In addition to the main campus in Ocean
Springs, it operates the J. L. Scott Marine
Education Center and Aquarium in Biloxi, MS.
The Laboratory focuses on marine related
research in the coastal waters. Research
emphasis areas include Aquaculture,
Fisheries Sciences, Environmental Fate and
Effects, Biodiversity and Systematics,
Coastal Ecology, and Oceanography.
POSITION: The Head Librarian is responsible
for providing information
services to the GCRL research and teaching
faculty, staff, and students; for managing
and evaluating library services,
operations, and collections; and for
seeking outside funding for the library.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS;
experience with reference sources,
collection development, cataloging,
computer-based library services, and
instruct ional techniques; good oral and
written communication skills and ability to
plan and evaluate library innovations;
successful post-MLS professional library
service experience and academic background in
the biological sciences, or experience in a
library serving the biological sciences
desirable.
SALARY: Salary is dependent upon experience
and qualifications.
